What you should know about Hubbard Foods
Anna says I’ve always had a passion for food, and am currently studying a Bachelor of Food Technology at Massey Uni. I love experimenting with food, and I find the science behind it fascinating. My love of food inspiared me to study this degree as well as the potential it will give me to contribute and further develop the food industry. One of my main goals is to design new foods so that processing becomes environmentally friendly. A wise old man once said the simplest of things can create the greatest of pleasures’.
We are excited to be principal sponsor for the Hubbards Head2Head Walk, a 125km relay about the Manukau Harbour. In the days when the Kea was part of the Hubbards logo, we helped fund Kea conservation projects to the tune of 13,00 which has contributed to the current 500 Keas roaming freely in the wild. To show our support for budding food technologists, we offer a Massey University Food Technology Scholarship each year to 1st year students enrolling at Massey University. We also love to roll up our sleeves and help out in the community whenever we can. But what really gets us feeling proud and excited is when we hear about all the amazing things you, the great New Zealand public, are doing out there in Kiwi land.
Over the years, Hubbards has been involved in a whole host of good community causes. From supporting students studying food technology at Massey University, to spending time and energy on local projects and charities such as Outward Bound and Ronald McDonald House. It’s basically a home away from home for families from all over NZ whose desperately ill children require life saving treatment. They give shelter and support to those families who’ve had to travel to Auckland because the specialist treatment their child needs isn’t necessarily available locally.
Standing on a rock in the middle of Central Park, Dick Hubbard announces to the world, well, Diana aka Mrs Hubbard , his plan to start creating cereals that would make New Zealand proud and healthier at the same time. It’s because on this day, Diana popped our three very first recipes into his birthday card. Inspired by all things 8 wire, Mildred gave us some glorious years of service, mixing away our Mueslis. Now long since retired and replaced by slightly more advanced machinery, she now has pride of place in our Mangere Shed.
We’ve been fans of the Outward Bound program for years now, and in 1997 we decided to make a cereal for those who love getting out in the great Kiwi outdoors and doing amazing things. Or as Dick said, Sometimes you have to be irrational in order to bring sunshine into the lives of people . When The National Heart Foundation of New Zealand gave us their Nutrition award, and the Image Coding Technologies Cereal and Bread Products Award was handed to us for our Light Right range, it was all a bit much. The great thing about creating new flavours is, well, coming up with them! I plan to create and promote a food product that is both tasty and nutritious, which can be sold and enjoyed by people throughout New Zealand and overseas

Which is why we took such a long time mixing and trialling to get the right blend of super seeds to blend with our toasty oats, crispy rice pops and buckwheat. If we had to vote for our original family flavour of all time, we reckon Corn Flakes would be in the top 3. The simple act of adding a few to our famous tasting muesli can turn any old bowl of bland into something pretty special. Not that we can really claim credit for it, but ever since we’ve been making our Berry Berry Lite muesli, everyone in New Zealand seems to have had a spring in their step. That’s the number of Mueslis we’ve created since Diana and Dick made our very first one way back in 1990. Good, nutritious, healthy Mueslis that have captured the taste buds of the nation. How about breakfast, cafe style? We can't promise a waiter, but a beautifully blended breakfast is definitely on the menu. Sunny mornings, long weekends and all those little yummy, good bits in our mueslis that plant a smile on the dial. When we first looked at reducing the fat in our Reduced Fat Cranberry Vanilla Muesli, we got a bit stuck. Ever since we can remember we've always hated those days when everything seems to run in sloow motion. The sort of day when you roll out of bed feeling a bit average and with th energy levels of a snail to boot. So it was only a matter of time before we got around to adding some to our Light Right range. We've been proudly supporting Outward Bound for more than 20 years since our own first Outward Bound experience. That, coupled with our desire to make NZ a better place is one of the reasons why our connection with Outward Bound is as strong today as it was all those years ago. Our delicious Thank Goodness Gluten Free cereals have all the oomph of our regular cereals, but with the added bonus of being Gluten Free. Sometimes, with all these new trendy health diets around, it can get a bit complicated trying to maintain a healthy, balanced lifestyle. But, in the case of our Thank Goodness Gluten Free Rice Pops, it's slightly different. With an abundance of good things like rolled oats, peanuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, papaya, sultanas, pineapple and our world famous Yoghurt Coated Sultanas, this Muesli really is in a league of its own. After a few experiments involving a whole lot of berries, a giant cauldron and a lot of taste testing, we struck gold. So our GF Cocoa Puffs makes sure that not a single kid misses out on this all time great. We spent most of our childhood waiting for the apricot season to roll 'round so we could pinch a few off the tree
